A couple months ago I purchased canvas totes and they were the wrong size. Since they cost $100 to ship to Alaska I couldn’t return them without losing money. I’ve been sitting on them until I figured out what to do with them. It hit me that if I roll up my mini fish, I can use them as bags at markets! My mom is printing each one by hand with a little Nuska fish stencil I made. They will be available at my next market in Fairbanks for the solstice midnight Sun Festival. Come say hi to me and my mom and tell her what a good job she is doing on these bags!!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on landscape inspired rugs. “Rivers” was the very first rug I ever designed. Inspired by my backyard. It was the design that pulled me from a deep slump of uninspired gloom. I was the lowest I’d been in years before I switched to fiber art. Unicorn camo is the equivalent of pink camo at @sportsmans_warehouse . Is it necessary? Absolutely not. Do we like it? Debatable. But I’m hoping we come together with more of a positive energy towards my unicorn camo tufted coasters! I’ve been making traditional camo coasters long enough. It’s time to let my freak flag fly. And for the people on here who want the OG back in stock. Don’t worry they are coming.

My halibut rug is definitely a crowd favorite, which is funny because it’s my least purchased sticker and patch but most purchased rug! I’ve probably sold double the amount of halibut rugs than any other fish rug. Just goes to show you never know what piece of your art people will connect with most. I personally expected the sockeye salmon to the most popular but maybe Alaskans are sockeye salmoned out 😂 Do you want to see more process videos like this? I always feel so awkward filming myself but I’m definitely trying to get better.

As a rule of thumb I like to make each rug a little different. Each one is handmade so that naturally occurs but I think my rainbow trout rugs have the biggest difference from rug to rug because i always free hand the background and change the ratio of colors within the fish to whatever I’m feeling that day. I like to think of it as painting with yarn. What do you think of this rainbow trout rug?

This custom white sturgeon was for a client in Canada! I absolutely loved designing this one. There is so much texture on this fish and little details we worked to create. When you purchase a custom fish rug from me, I allow up to 2 edits to my original design. This part of the process is collaborative and crucial, especially when it’s a fish like this that we don’t see in Alaska! I rely heavily on photographs and the clients knowledge to create the perfect fish for them. Sometimes it’s easy and sometimes (like with this fish) we are editing down to the final draft! How do you think it turned out?
